Miranda Lambert has joked that her "tough girl image" is over after she got emotional while meeting Shania Twain.
The country music star scooped the Female Vocalist of the Year prize at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards in Las Vegas last night.
Speaking after her win backstage, Miranda discussed how overcome she was during the whole ceremony.
"I've not stopped crying really since last night, because to see Shania Twain and Faith Hill and then to be introduced to Shania Twain, well my head was spinning off my shoulders and I haven't calmed down since then," Miranda told Great American Country TV. "I've been teary all day, then I saw George Strait and Garth Brooks together on stage and I broke down. I said, 'I can't take this,' and I cried all night. The tough girl image is over!"
During her acceptance speech Miranda recognised the female stars she'd beaten to scoop the award.
She named Carrie Underwood as the nominee she had been championing to pick up the prize.
“I for sure thought Carrie had it this year, and she damn well deserves it,” Miranda said. “I’m not supposed to say that on TV!"
Miranda is married to fellow country music singer Blake Shelton and has previously joked about being the "bad guy" in their relationship. She explained more about the close bond felt between all those in the country music industry.
"It truly does make me feel super brave [to have won]. I talked about all the other nominees and other artists who we thought should win before and I know we kind of nailed it," she gushed. "Everyone in country music is a huge family, people say it all the time but we truly are. If you were at the show you'd know that country music artists support other country music artists all the way."
