Michael Buble is very happy in his marriage to Luisana Lopilato but he was initially terrified of settling down and tying the knot.

Michael Buble was afraid of getting married.

The 38-year-old singer - who has five-month-old son Noah with spouse Luisana Lopilato - always knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the 26-year-old beauty but admits before they tied the knot in 2011, he was terrified of making a permanent commitment.

Speaking on 'George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight', he said: "It's funny ... I've said it before and I get in trouble for it, I fell in love with my wife. She's a great person. And it's weird, I wanted to get married to her because I wanted to be with her for my life. She's my best friend. But did I want to get married? It's a scary commitment. I gotta be honest, by the time I hit my 30s marriage was out. I just looked at my friends who got married and went, 'Why?' Especially friends who got married and didn't have kids. Then I was really stumped.

"I was, like, 'So what's your reason for being married if you're not going to have kids? Why are you doing it?'

"It's just one of those things, you know. I couldn't have known it was going to be as good as it is."

The 'Haven't Met You Yet' hitmaker also thought he was too "selfish" to be a father and is still filled with concerns about being a good parent.

He said: "Even having a kid, I thought I was way too selfish, impatient and I thought I was scared every day, even when she was pregnant, I was like, 'Am I good enough? Am I going to be a good dad? Am I going to be an absentee father?'

"It's a tough conversation. It's something we struggle with daily."

Michael and George met up for a special on-location interview in Ucluelet, B.C.'s Pacific Rim National Park.
