Lynyrd Skynyrd is going the Wal-Mart exclusive route for their career compilation Southern Surroundings. The new album will be out on August 7 in all Wal-Mart stores.
The CD/DVD/Audio DVD set includes a CD with 14 of the band's biggest hits, including Sweet Home Alabama, That Smell and Free Bird, a DVD with seven performances from the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test, and a DVD Audio disc with ten of their classics in newly mixed 5.1 Surround Sound by Elliott Scheiner.
Southern Surroundings offers a superb overview of their career, both as a live act (which can be seen in the BBC footage) as well as a recording group, with the Scheiner-mixed 5.1 surround sound versions adding a whole new perspective to the group's groundbreaking catalog. There are also some rare gems, including an acoustic version of All I Can Do Is Write About It on Disc 1 and a scintillating take on J. J. Cale's I Got The Same Old Blues from the Old Grey Whistle Test on the BBC DVD disc.
On August 21, Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records will release the band's new studio album, Last of a Dyin' Breed. The release marks the legendary Southern rockers' first release of new material since Sept. 2009's Gods & Guns, which debuted in the Top 20 of the Billboard album sales chart, their highest bow since 1977.
