Lynda Carter felt “shameful” when she was battling an alcohol addiction during her struggle to launch her singing career.

The Wonder Woman star has spoken about the height of her drinking problem as she tried to score a record deal when she first moved to Hollywood at age 22.

Lynda, now 60, admits the tough music industry took its toll.

“You can’t go through that process and not be terrified,” she told UK edition of OK!

magazine. “People who are in the throes of addiction feel very alone and very isolated – nobody plans on it. Fourteen years ago, before I went into recovery, I would have to say that I drank against my will. It feels shameful and it feels lonely and you feel doomed.”

The actress-and-singer revealed she didn’t start drinking until her twenties.

“It didn’t take long to grab hold of me,” she said.

Lynda added that while she has many fond memories of playing the superhero she is returning to her first love of music.

Her new album Crazy Little Things, which includes musicians from Nashville, took a year to make and includes re-imagined rock classics.
