Lorde finds Kanye West less intimidating than girls her own age.
The 16-year-old has hit number one in several countries with her track Royals and is currently promoting her first album, Pure Heroine.
While her exciting career has enabled her to meet some of the industry's biggest stars, Lorde - real name Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O'Connor - feels a little out of touch with her peers.
“When I meet a bunch of girls my age, I find that stressful as I’m just a high school student myself. I feel intimidated by them," she admitted to British newspaper The Sun.
“But meeting people like Kanye West - people who are into what you do and understand about having a vision - I can relate to.
“He is so driven and has such a unique way of seeing things.
“I’d love to work with him or Prince. Meeting Prince would be such an honour.”
Lorde's refreshing approach to teen pop music has been applauded, with her debut single Royals slamming the lavish celebrity lifestyle.
She can't see herself getting up on stage and twerking like fellow singer Miley Cyrus, 20, anytime soon.
“It’s something I’d never do - I wouldn’t feel confident with my ass out. But if Miley feels comfortable doing it herself then it’s no one’s business to judge," she shrugged.
“If she wants to appear in her bra and panties then it’s cool.
“Having been in an institution like Disney all her life, it’s important she has fun. For now, it’s not for me. It’s not natural.”
Stars who found fame in their teens have been notorious for having problems later in life.
The curly-haired brunette is certain she won't suffer the same fate as singers such as Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears.
“Six months ago, no one knew who I was and now fans chase my car.
“But I’m never going to change or let fame get the better of me.
“I’ll never go off the rails like Britney or do an Amy - because my upbringing was so normal," the New Zealand born singer said.
“I can’t touch alcohol at my age and I’m not sure I even want to when I’m older.
“Going to crazy places like LA makes me appreciate the lifestyle I have in New Zealand even more.
“I don’t think I could ever live in LA. It does something to your soul. The place really infects people - if I stay there for too long I start being a freak. All this is just fantasy land as Lorde.
“When I go home, I’m back being teenage Ella - catching up on school work and gossiping with my friends.”
