Lil Wayne is producing “his version of love songs” on his newest record.

The How To Love rapper is currently working on his tenth studio album Devol, which is pronounced “devil.”

Lil Wayne is taking an inverted approach to amour in these works.

“That's 'loved' spelled backwards, and it's my version of love songs,” told late-night talk show Hip Hop POV.

In 2010 Lil Wayne was released from Rikers Island prison in New York after being incarcerated for eight months on charges of felony gun and marijuana possession.

The musician’s experience behind bars acts as the main source of inspiration behind the tracks on Devol.

“What I mean by my version of love songs is meaning they're not saying, 'I love you,' ” Lil Wayne explained. “It's all material I did when I was locked up.”

Lil Wayne’s last album Tha Carter IV was certified double platinum.

The LP was released at the end of August 2011 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 964,000 copies sold in its first week, making it Lil Wayne's third chart topping album of his career.

Devol is slated for release later on this year.
