LeAnn Rimes felt like a 'kid in a candy store' when putting together her new album.

The American country singer has been busy recording her latest musical offering Spitfire, which is due for release next year.

The 30-year-old has collaborated with the likes of classic rock guitarist Jeff Beck and bluegrass superstars Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski on the new album.

'I was like a kid in a candy store because every single person I asked that I really, really definitely wanted to work with said, 'Yes,' LeAnn recalled to Sound Observations.

'I'm very much appreciative of everybody on this record, but I'm still kind of in awe too of people like Dan and Alison.'

LeAnn has been producing albums since 1991, amassing a wide fan base along with her success.

The star can see how her music has changed over the years and feels Spitfire is more of an accurate reflection of her personality.

'At the end of the day, for me, it's about being real,' she explained.

'Growing up, especially in the country world, a lot of people always told me that I couldn't have a point of view, [that] I couldn't have an opinion. 'Don't offend anyone because someone might not buy your record.' Now that I've gotten older, it's kind of like, 'Well, I have to be true to myself and who I am.' I'm still a human being, even to this day... And, now, this album is definitely coming from that place and expanding even more so on that. I think that's just kind of the direction I'm heading in ' being a little more personal.'
