Kylie Minogue reportedly advised her sister Dannii to put her happiness first when it comes to her love life.

Dannii recently announced she has split from model Kris Smith, who she has 21-month-old son Ethan with. She reportedly turned to her older sister Kylie for advice when the romance began failing.

'She's been understandably scared about splitting up, but Kylie reassured her that she was strong enough to go it alone and that her happiness had to come first,' a source told the British edition of Grazia magazine.

Dannii was living in the UK and appearing as a judge on the British version of The X Factor when she met Kris. They eventually settled in Australia although it's thought she wasn't totally comfortable there.

It's now rumoured that she might return to Britain and is even said to be in talks with Simon Cowell about reprising her role on The X Factor.

Whether she stays in her native country or not it's thought Kris has made his home there and has no plans to move.

'It's heart-breaking for both of them, but Ethan is their priority,' an inside added.

Dannii released a statement about the end of her relationship on Twitter last week, saying she was upset about the breakup and hoped to be left alone to get over it.

It's now been claimed the star and Kris split after she became concerned that he wasn't taking their romance seriously.

'They have been separated for two months,' a source told Heat magazine. 'It was a trial separation after a series of rows. Dannii started to worry that Kris might not have been as committed to their relationship as she was, and told him that she wasn't sure if there was a future for them.'
