Kelly Clarkson didn't know there were men who didn't "abandon" before she met her husband.

The 32-year-old singer is happily married to her manager Brandon Blackstock and the couple have little girl River Rose together.

Kelly has often spoken about her strained childhood, which saw her live with her mother after her dad left with her brother Jason and her sister Alyssa set up home with their aunt. After such an emotional period the star doubted whether there were any nice men out there.

"I didn't even know a guy existed that wouldn't abandon you at some point. When your father does that, and they're supposed to be the one that loves you the most, you're like: 'Oh God, if they didn't then surely no one else will,'" she sighed to British newspaper Metro.

"They're supposed to love you unconditionally."

Despite including the use of a dating app in her latest music video for track Heartbeat Song, Kelly isn't familiar with Tinder and likes to keep things "old school" when it comes to romance.

She has been on a blind though, which didn't go particularly well.

"I went on a sort of blind date with someone in the music world and that didn't work out because they used my full name the whole time," she recalled. "They'd say, 'I can't believe I'm on a date with Kelly Clarkson,' and I was like, 'I can't believe you're still using my full name!' I wanted to run."

The star isn't one for mingling with fellow A-listers and lives a tranquil life out in the country when she isn't busy touring to promote her music.

She didn't even know who One Direction were when approached with the idea of giving them her track Tell Me A Lie.
"It was meant to be on my album Stronger but it didn't fit. So my manager wanted to pitch it to One Direction for their debut album and I was like, 'I don't know who that is,'" she laughed.
