Katy Perry apparently cried so hard after watching a Broadway musical she thought she lost an eyelash.

The singer attended a performance of Kinky Boots in New York City on Wednesday and was overcome with emotion.

Katy was so struck by the production – based on the 2005 movie of the same name – that she needed time to pull herself together before she went backstage to meet the show’s composer Cyndi Lauper.

“She told her handlers she needed a few minutes to compose herself,” a source told New York Post’s Page Six. “She was crying so hard she thought she lost an eyelash.”

Cyndi is said to have seen Katy weeping and kindly offered her a tissue.

“Honey, I keep these on me at all times. I’ve been crying nonstop all week,” she reportedly told the younger star.

Katy isn’t the only one to be impressed by Kinky Boots. Earlier this week it garnered a staggering 13 nominations for the 2013 Tony Awards.

The show focuses on a struggling shoemaker who turns his attentions to making fetish footwear.

After hearing Kinky Boots was leading the way with nominations at the prestigious annual Broadway theatre awards, Cyndi took to Twitter to express her delight.

“OmG! OMG!! wow we got nominated!! @KinkyBootsBway !!! OMG!!!' and later, 'I'm crying and jumping up and down! I can't believe it so excited! (sic)” she wrote.

Katy took to her Twitter account shortly after watching the show and it seems she was still feeling affected by it.

“Just saw KINKY BOOTS on broadway & cried w/joy from it's powerful, beautiful message. Congrats on every of its deserved 13 Tony nominations! (sic)” she gushed.

The 27-year-old star also voiced her support for Billy Porter, who plays drag queen Lola in the production.

“AND if Billy Porter doesn't win the Tony for best actor in a musical... There will be words... Trust (sic)” she added.
