Katy Perry will perform at next year's Super Bowl.

Rumours the 30-year-old star would be taking to the stage during half time at the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show have been swirling since last month. The singer is currently on tour in Australia and confirmed the reports are true via her Twitter account.

"My band is in the other room screaming at the TV (and each other) over this Cowboys-Giants game. Can’t wait for February 1st... (sic)," she wrote, along with emoticons of a microphone and American football.

The event will take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona on Sunday February 1 2015.

It wasn't just Katy who announced the news. She had been watching a match between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, and during the half-time segment sportscaster Bob Costas confirmed it too. After this, a special video Katy and Pepsi had made was released.

Bagging the performance is a coup for Katy, as it is the most-watched music event annually. This year Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers took the reins, with 111.5million people tuning in to watch them. The Super Bowl is famed for attracting big-name stars to the stage, with Madonna, Beyoncé Knowles, The Who, The Rolling Stones and Prince doing the honours in the past.

While what Katy has in store isn't known at the moment, more announcements will happen as the date draws closer.

"Yeppers! And I've already started testing out ideas! (sic)," she added on Twitter.

Katy is on her Prismatic World Tour at the moment, but it's not all good news for the star. She's slammed paparazzi for taking pictures of her, with the star alleging one of them took off his clothes to get shots of her. She's also claimed some photographers told her that they would leave her alone if she allowed them to get a picture of her in a bikini.

"Remember AUS anyone printing or posting unauthorized photos of me in a bikini from these DISGUSTING/PERVERTED OLD MEN is AGAINST my will! (sic)" she wrote.
