Kanye West went through "his version of the terrible twos" a few years ago.

The 37-year-old rapper and his wife Kim Kardashian are parents to 19-month-old daughter North and becoming a father has mellowed him. Previously he was renowned for ranting about paparazzi and the injustices celebrities face, as well as for constantly talking about his talent.

"I think I was going through my version of my terrible twos. My daughter, she wants to express herself and she just doesn’t have the words for it. And for me there was so many things I wanted to do with film and clothing and I just didn’t have the words or the resources or the backing or the perception that I could do it being that I was a rapper," he told US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Kim has been open about her desire to have another baby, with Kanye also saying they are trying to add to their brood at the moment. He wouldn't say how many children he'd like though, explaining he'll go along with whatever will make his 34-year-old wife happy.

The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Italy last year and the hip-hop star hasn't looked back since. Marriage has changed him on a profound level and he's started to realise exactly what is important in his life.

"I’ve definitely learned how to compromise more, which is something you have to understand when you partner with people in business," he explained.

"And I’ve learned how to shut up more."

Kanye claims he is a "better human being" since getting together with Kim and having North. Apart from anything, it's made him consider his actions - and how others perceive them.

"I have always [got] someone to think about going home to and, you know, something for me to be brave for what I want to do for humanity, but also to be more protective of myself for my family too," he said. "'Cause there are things I’ve done in the past that were considered negative, but I was really jumping in front of the tank for other people or for culture in a way, so now I always have to have that in my mind, that I have a family that I have to protect too."
