Jessica Chastain's lifelong ambition was "to be Diana Ross" in Lady Sings the Blues.
The flame-haired screen siren appears in the January 2013 edition of W magazine, in which four of the world's leading artists give her different looks.
In one shot she is seen in a 1970s diva wig and head to toe shimmering gold.
Jessica made the scene come to life by imagining she was Diana Ross playing Billie Holiday in the movie.
“As a little girl, I wanted to be Diana Ross in that movie [Lady Sings the Blues]," Jessica revealed to W magazine. "And when I put on the red Afro wig, I finally felt like her."
The star continued to explain how she approached the photoshoot for the publication.
The talented movie and stage actress enjoyed the process of letting go and allowing herself to be styled by the artists from their unique viewpoints.
“[I wanted to] become the canvas," Jessica explained.
“I love the feeling of giving myself over to another strong point of view. It’s the best kind of trust - the belief that an artist will take care of me while creating something unique.”
