Iggy Azalea's boyfriend encouraged her to "be Yezzy" on her online haters.

The 24-year-old rapper has been at the centre of many beefs over the last few months, with stars including Azealia Banks taking issue with her being a white hip-hop star. Last week Iggy announced she was quitting Twitter because she was tired of the bullying she was subjected to, and she felt it was becoming hard for her to be the positive person she wants.

The star is dating basketball star Nick Young, who has been advising her on how to deal with her haters - namely saying she should take a leaf out of outspoken star Kanye West's book.

"He wanted me to be way worse than I was," she laughed to Power 106's J. Cruz and Krystal Bee. "He was like, 'Why you lettin' these people push over you?! You just gotta be Yeezy on 'em!' That's what he kept saying. He was like, 'Just be the No. 1 playa hater... you just need to tell them all to suck your d**k!'"

Although Iggy appreciated her beau believing in her and showing his support, ultimately she didn't take his tips on board.

"I'm like, but that's just not me, I don't wanna be super aggressive. He wanted me to be aggressive about it," she explained.

Azealia blasted Iggy for not understanding issues affecting the black community online, and she also gave an interview saying the star didn't deserve to win awards for her music. This view was backed up by J. Cole in his song Fire Squad, where he rapped: "White people have snatched the sound/ watch Iggy win a Grammy as I try to crack a smile."

Iggy is in no doubt that handing her Twitter account over to her management was the right move.

"I think it's dangerous to have that negative Internet culture. It isn't all, but I think it's dangerous. Especially when you're someone that's having to create things," she said.

"For me, it definitely affects when I'm creating things. I'm in the middle of recording a second album and I really don't want to have some angry, aggressive ass album. Every time I come in the studio I'm just like, I wanna punch everyone in the face and those are the only songs I'm able to write..."

She added that her job will always be about entertaining people, rather than being rude to them.

On a lighter note, Nick rang in to the interview at one point and gave his view on a gift Iggy gave him. For Christmas she presented him with a 1962 Chevrolet Impala, but there's something that would make the car more appealing for the sportsman.

"If she could put a thong on and ride in the car with me that'd be even better," he laughed.
