'Man of the moment’ vocalist, songwriter entertainer Gregory Porter took to the West Holts stage on Saturday and wowed a jam-packed crowd, with his festival friendly mix of Jazz, Blues, Gospel and Soul.
He met up with pal Pharrell Williams backstage and was invited to perform at BBC Music Tepee, where he did an acoustic version of modern classic track ‘Liquid Spirit’ and an amazing cover of James Bay’s ‘Hold Back The River'.
Gregory told the Times: “I first heard about Glastonbury when I saw clips of it on MTV News as a kid, so I always knew it was important. For me to be here more than 20 years later is extraordinary – it’s my first time, so it felt very special, and there was such a cool vibe from the audience. The amazing thing about festivals is that you don’t have to convince anyone to be a music lover: we don’t have so many of them in the US, but there are so many good ones in the UK where you get to camp in the designated attire of cut-off jeans and wellies. To have people get into that frenzy of music is just great.”
Gregory has had an incredible year, which has seen him score a top 10 for classic album Liquid Spirit (which also became the most streamed Jazz album of all time). This year Gregory’s televised appearances and performances have included Sunday Night At The Palladium and VE Day 70. He has also had unprecedented success in the dance scene scoring a hit in the dance chart for a remix of his track Liquid Spirit (Claptone remix), which was also top of the Ibiza Shazam chart last week. Gregory plays V Festival later this year.
