Selena Gomez was taken to the emergency room at a Los Angeles hospital on Monday.

The 20-year-old pop star sought medical attention amid concerns she had contracted strep throat and was seen exiting a medical facility Monday morning, TMZ reports.

Selena has reportedly been suffering from a sore throat and was forced to cut short a recent recording session due to the pain.

The E.R. visit is believed to be a precautionary measure.

According to the website, her stepfather has bronchitis and she is concerned she has contracted a contagious virus.

Sources say the doctor does not believe Selena has strep. Tests are expected to come back later this week.

Her hospital visit comes just hours after Selena was partying after Sunday night’s American Music Awards in Los Angeles with Justin Bieber.

The Baby hitmaker swept the fan-voted prize-giving, winning awards for artist of the year, favourite pop/rock male artist and favourite pop/rock album.

The couple appeared to put rumours to rest they had split two weeks ago as they were seen holding hands and kissing at a Los Angeles nightclub.

Selena has not issued comment on either report.
