George Michael’s ‘Symphonica’ debuted at number one in the UK today outselling Kylie’s ‘Kiss Me Once’ by more than 20,000 copies.

George thanked fans via Official Charts Company for the achievement. “Thank you so much!,” George told OfficialCharts.com upon hearing the news earlier today. “Symphonica is at this moment sitting at Number 1 in the UK, and it’s so nice to be able to savour this wonderful moment. I am a lucky man!”

‘Symphonica’ is Michael’s first album in nearly 10 years. The album was the last recording producer Phil Ramone worked on before he died in March last year.

Kylie Minogue did make it to number one in Australia but with only 8166 sales. ‘Kiss Me Once’ is one of the lowest selling number one debut albums of the year.
