Garth Brooks has sold 180,000 tickets in one day for his Chicago shows.
Brooks will play ten shows that will run from September 4 to 14.
The tickets sold in just ten hours, smashing his own record in Chicago of 141,717 tickets sold for the same venue 17 years ago. By our calculations, that would only leave 5,000 tickets left and they very well may be gone by now. All tickets are $65.50 including all taxes and fees.
Brooks says that these shows will kickoff a tour that could last up to three years. His wife, Trisha Yearwood, will also appear. More dates for other cities are expected in the near future.
Meanwhile, the impending sales of Brook’s catalog via digital download may move him past Elvis Presley to become the biggest selling solo artist in U.S. music history.
Currently, the following are the top five according to the RIAA:
Beatles – 177.0 million
Elvis Presley – 134.5 million
Garth Brooks – 134.0 million
Led Zeppelin – 111.0 million
Eagles – 100.0 million
Brook’s music has never been available digitally, so the upcoming availability could easily give him the 500,000 or more units needed to pass Elvis. Brooks will only sell the downloads via his own online store and not via venues such as iTunes and Amazon.
If that doesn’t do the trick, a new album that is being teased for later this year will most certainly do the trick.
