Fergie says wetting herself on stage was "the most unattractive" moment of her life.

The gorgeous singer suffered an embarrassing mishap back in 2005, while she was performing with her The Black Eyed Peas bandmates. Having not had time to use the toilet beforehand, she was mortified when a wet patch appeared at her crotch while singing.

"[That was] the most unattractive moment of my life," she cringed to Hot 97 radio, looking back on the incident. "It does not just happen all the time.

"We were late for stage, driving down the freeway, it's Friday traffic… get to the stage, we have to start right the show. I'm running on and we jump and do Let's Get It Started, and I get crazy and I jump and I run across the stage and my adrenaline was going and gosh.

"I wish it didn't happen... It was so embarrassing!"

Now, at 39, the star has more important things to think about. She raises son Axl with her husband Josh Duhamel and is also busy working on solo material. Her second album is due out in 2015 and features a collaboration with rapper Nicki Minaj. However Fergie doesn't feel threatened by other female stars.

"Healthy competition, there's nothing wrong with that," she grinned. "That's normal. That's just like flirting. It's a normal human thing."

On Wednesday night, Fergie attended the Emery Awards, where she was one of this year's honourees. The annual event raises money for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which supports young people and their sexual identities.

Fergie, who is bisexual, was introduced by Kelly Osbourne at Cipriani Wall Street and honoured for her efforts on behalf of gay and lesbian youth.
