Fergie infuriated her father by having "relations" with "a couple of gangsters" when she was at school.

The 39-year-old star stepped into the limelight when she was just nine, as an actress. She maintained her professionalism despite her young age and was known for being polite on set. That doesn't mean she never acted out though - with her parents getting the full force of that.

"Well, there were a couple of gangsters that - I don't know if you'd call them dates - but I had relations with in high school... Definitely some heavy petting going on," she told Allure magazine.

"My dad was not happy with that at all, especially him being a high-school football coach. The guys he was having to discipline, those were exactly the ones I was attracted to and wanted to fall in love with."

Eventually Fergie scored success with girl band Wild Orchid. She began to dislike their pop sound though and so left, which is when she was picked up by will.i.am and joined the Black Eyed Peas. Even that wasn't an easy move for the star though as many of the group's fans were unhappy with her inclusion, as they felt she made them too mainstream.

"It was hateful things on the internet, just mean, hurtful things. So that's where I just kind of went, you know what? Who are you? You don't even know me. You have no idea what I went through to get here. To hell and back," she said, referencing her period of being addicted to crystal meth during and after Wild Orchid.

Even now it has an effect on the star, who finds it hard to say no to work.

"I have a problem saying no in my career when they just want to pile things on. And I've had to be very strong, stand up for myself, express when I'm not OK. It's a constant work in progress for me," she said.
