Ed Sheeran's next album won't be out before 2016.

The British singer made waves in the music industry with his 2011 debut +, which spawned hits such as The A Team and Drunk. He took some time out before coming back this year with x, which became the biggest record of 2014 in Britain. But despite being on a roll, the star doesn't plan to ride this wave of success for too long.

“I haven’t had any time off since before I signed my record deal and I want some!" he laughed to British newspaper The Sun, before adding the next album won't be out for at least another two years.

“I’ll do what I enjoy and it won’t feel like work.”

In light of the upcoming festive season, the 23-year-old is working on a Christmas tune. However, it won't be ready in time for this year.

“[The song] won’t be out this Christmas," he said. “I have Thinking Out Loud as a single going into Christmas.

“If I saw an artist have a string of hits, an album that did well, a hit going into Christmas and then they did a Christmas single I’d think, ‘Ooh, that’s overkill.' If my song came out next year or the year after, when I haven’t released anything for a while, it will be bigger.”

Ed released six singles from his first album. But this time around, he's keeping things closer to his chest after already sharing tracks Sing and Don't.

"After Thinking Out Loud I don’t think I should do another single from x," he mused. “Three is a good number.

“You never go away and people get p**sed off. Bruno Mars did three, Taylor Swift did three, Adele did three.

“I’ll probably end up with four singles so I have a song to go into the Brit Awards with next year.”
