Donnie Wahlberg wanted to propose to Jenny McCarthy soon after they started dating last year.

Jenny announced her engagement last week on TV show The View, of which she is a co-host.

According to Donnie, there was never any doubt that she was the woman for him.

“Probably planned it about two months into us dating, but things take time and I just waited until the moment was right,” he told Extra. “I don't know if it was a surprise… it might've been a race because she kept threatening to propose to me. Not to make me do it, she just wanted to get engaged, so did I it first. I’m a little old-fashioned. I wasn’t going to let her get on one knee.”

Although the Wahlburgers star is excited to be getting married, he admits neither he nor Jenny have discussed any specific plans yet. The 44-year-old insists there is no rush to walk down the aisle.

“No details yet. We'll do it when it's right, but so far everything is awesome,” he explained.

This will be Donnie’s second marriage, having previously been married to Kim Fey for nine years. Jenny’s marriage to director John Asher ended in 2005, and they have an 11-year-old son called Evan.

The former Playboy model previously said she never saw herself getting married again, but Donnie changed her mind.

"You know, I've said on every interview that I was like, 'Never, I'll never get married again, ever,' and, of course, you never say never," she told Bethenny Frankel on her talk show. "I think he would be an amazing husband, so if he does (propose), I would for sure say yes."
