Demi Lovato has reportedly been hospitalised for a lung infection.

TMZ reports the American songstress was taken to the ER at Providence Tarzana Medical Center, California, by a friend after she began experiencing significant trouble breathing.

The news outlet claim doctors have carried out a series of tests, concluding the problem is flu-related, and have prescribed her medication including the antibiotic Zithromax.

Demi was still in hospital yesterday afternoon, which is bad timing as she's currently recording her album and had supposed studio time booked in with a big producer.

The 22-year-old has a strong presence on social media, but she's yet to update fans on her alleged health scare.

However, she has shared her thoughts on the world in the last few days, with a rather gloomy outlook.

"Too many haters on Twitter these days. This generation needs to learn how to love a little (sic)," she wrote.

Demi's boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama seems to have a sunnier disposition when it comes to the micro blogging site.

"If you've used the word IMPOSSIBLE... You've most likely never seen a 5am sunrise... After dreaming the POSSIBLE (sic)," he told fans.

The pair have been dating since 2010 and have been through some hard times together. Wilmer was there for the singer when she battled an eating disorder, with Demi previously stating he saved her from relapsing.

The lovebirds recently faced wedding rumours after both sporting bands on their ring finger, but Wilmer cleared things up.
"We're not engaged. But it's something that I definitely look forward to in the future. We'll see," he told E! News. "You know, who knows?"
