Demi Lovato’s father has reportedly passed away.

The 20-year-old star’s parent is thought to have died after a battle with cancer.

While she didn’t immediately address the loss of her relative, older sister Dallas shared the news on Twitter.

“Rest in peace daddy I love you,” she cryptically posted on the micro-blogging website.

Demi has been busy with The X Factor USA auditions this week but it is not known whether the sad event will affect her schedule.

Demi spent much of her life without her country singer dad Patrick Lovato.

She wrote For the Love of a Daughter from her album Unbroken about her time growing up without her father.

Demi has a younger half-sister on her mother’s side named Madison De La Garza. As well as that sibling she only discovered an older half-sister earlier this year.

"I just got to know … I have an older sister that I've never known my whole life. She's in her 30s. She's my half-sister. I talked to her for the very first time in my life around when I turned 20,” she told the Dana & Jeffrey in the Morning show.

"I asked her, 'Why haven't you ever contacted me?' She just said, 'Well, because I never wanted you to think that I wanted anything from you.

“So I've just kind of been waiting to see if you wanted a relationship. I thought that was so incredible. So I actually have three sisters!"
