Cyndi Lauper has criticised modern music and modern pop stars for being too fixated with sex.
Cyndi Lauper thinks modern pop music is too sexually orientated.
The 59-year-old singer believes too many songs released now are about X-rated subjects and she is concerned about the effect it could be having on listeners.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, Cyndi - who is releasing her autobiography 'Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir' this month - said: "One young woman walked up to me recently at a concert and thanked for me my work 'in the midst of all this rape music.' I never thought of it like that, but so much music nowadays is about sex, sex, sex and is quite aggressive. She called it rape music. I thought, 'Oh my God, I guess she's right.' I just try to write music that connects with people's conscience and make music for awake people rather than sleepwalkers."
The 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' hitmaker looked back on her entire life while penning her book, including her jobs before she became a pop star.
One of the most unusual jobs she had was walking race horses after they had competed and Cyndi remembered she would sing Hari Krishna chants to the animals to calm them down.
When asked what the responsibilities of a racetrack hot walker are, she said: "When a horse runs, it needs to cool down afterwards and I was the person who would walk them. I'd sing to them. Hari Krishna chants were popular at the time and there was one that was really beautiful that I'd sing to the horses to calm them down. Horses are very big and I'm not, so I had to be real careful. Singing seemed to work."
