Kelly Clarkson encouraged Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock not to split, it has been claimed.

The Heartbeat Song singer is married to Reba’s stepson Brandon Blackstock. Following the news on Monday that the country singer and her husband of 26 years were splitting up, a source says Kelly did her best to stop the break-up from happening.

“They've been living apart for two years," the insider told Us Weekly. "Kelly urged them not to split and she's the reason they didn't split earlier. She was really fighting for them to make it work and stay together."

Kelly and Reba have become close since the American Idol winner tied the knot with Brandon in October 2013.

Announcing the end of their union, the 60-year-old and her 58-year-old manager-producer spouse said their split was amicable.

“Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other," a statement from Big Machine Label Group read. "They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time."

Kelly has spoken in the past about how much she loves her in-laws.

"My sister, my mom, me and [mother-in-law] are the gamers in the family. Everyone else we just drag into it," the 33-year-old told Rolling Stone in May. "Reba and I are both competitive – she'll tell you she's not, but she's a liar. I can win Sequence, but if we play backgammon or Mexican Train dominoes, she kills me. She's like a backgammon magician."
