Charli XCX doesn’t think she falls in the diva category at all.

The 22-year-old Break the Rules singer is one of the hottest songwriters out there at the moment, as she has been hired to pen tunes for the likes of Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani.

But as her success grows, Charli refuses to take herself too seriously.

“I don’t think I’m a diva. I can be a b***h when I want things done, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing,” she told the UK’s Fabulous magazine. “If you’re a strong woman, people call you a b***h because you’re being bossy. If a man does that, he’s called ‘a boss’. Women need to reclaim the word b***h and make it theirs.”

Charli confesses the pressures of her job can sometimes lead to emotional outbursts.

The songstress also admits “partying too much” adds fuel to the fire.

“I do get a bit, like, crazy sometimes. It’s an emotional roller coaster,” she shared. “I’ll have a day every two months where I have a total breakdown where I cry, I’m stressed, I shout at my friends and I’m a little b***h.”

But a party lifestyle won’t defuse Charli’s focus on her professional duties.

The star’s commitment to work is so strong, she can’t imagine forfeiting her career for anything.

“I’m not a bimbo who’s going to let other people do things for me. If I’m doing a performance on TV, I need to know who’s doing the lights, the stage set-up, the styling for the band, the colour of the instruments. I don’t just arrive and go: ‘Oh great, somebody chose this for me.’ I don’t think many pop stars are like that any more,” she noted.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t know there were drugs in the music industry, but it doesn’t mean that I’m partaking in that every second of every day. I wouldn’t have got where I am if I was crashing and burning.”
