Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey waited until marriage to consummate their relationship.

The actor spoke candidly to American shock jock Howard Stern about the pair’s unique bond.

Speaking on Howard’s Sirius XM radio show on Tuesday morning, he admitted Mariah wanted a more traditional courtship.

Nick said he was happy to respect her wishes.

“In my mind, I’m with it. It’s one of the most beautiful women that ever walked the planet,” he said (sic).

The couple married in April 2008 in the Bahamas after a whirlwind six-week courtship.

Nick admitted before their nuptials the pair had done little more than kissed.

“I was excited,” he recalled of their first evening together.

“It was so different because we were jetsetting and traveling and stuff… I knew what her values were,” he explained.

Mariah and Nick welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe in April 2011.

Earlier this year he experienced a period of ill health, when his kidneys began to fail and he got a blood clot on his lung. He was eventually told he has an autoimmune disease, which put things in perspective about the couple’s relationship.

"Family comes first," he told Parade magazine at the time.

"As long as we prioritise and make sure our kids and each other are first, then our occupations come after that, even though we're extremely busy. We take the time out to make sure we focus on each other when we need to," he said.
