Calvin Harris “worked in a succession of supermarkets” before making it big.

The 28-year-old Scottish producer and musician collaborated with the likes of Rihanna, Dizzee Rascal and Mary J. Blige in recent years.

Calvin confesses that he suffered years of horrible jobs prior to becoming successful.

"Before I was signed [to a record deal on Columbia], I worked in a succession of supermarkets," he told USA Today.

"I was very good at it because I'm really tall and could help old ladies reach their cans of beans."

Calvin’s other memorable former job was very smelly.

He is happy with his new life in the spotlight and doesn’t ever want to return to a blue-collar lifestyle.

"I can't think of a single thing I could possibly miss from those days -- it was horrible," he detailed.

"I worked at a fish factory for about a year after school and got laid off on my birthday."

Calvin is open to working with underground artists and has released a number of tracks with up-and-comers.

Still, the star feels great satisfaction when he scores major collaborations.

"I enjoy working with Dizzee Rascal. We've known each other for years and he knows how I work, I know how he works," Calvin said.

"But the most challenging tracks to make, where I had to chase down the artist and convince them to work with me, were the most rewarding."

Calvin’s new album 18 Months was released last week.
