Michael Bublé has apologised to fans after a controversial Instagram post.

The 39-year-old singer hit headlines following a picture posted on the social network earlier this week.

The image, taken by his wife Luisana Lopilato, first appeared to be a simple picture of the singer. However, in the background, a woman could be seen wearing tiny black shorts – displaying some of her bottom in the process.

“There was something about this photo lu took ,that seemed worthy of instagram. #myhumps #babygotback #hungryshorts #onlyinmiami #picoftheday #beautifulbum.” Michael captioned the picture.

However, the shot divided opinion among his followers on Instagram, with many accusing him of being disrespectful to women by posting the picture of the as yet unidentified female.

And now the singer has come forward to say sorry if he caused any upset with the picture.

“I do not court controversy, but I realise that a photo that was meant to be complimentary and lighthearted has turned into a questionable issue," he told Us Weekly. “It hurts me deeply that anyone would think that I would disrespect women or be insulting to any human being . . .I regret that there are people out there who found the photo offensive. That was not and is not my intention.”

Michael is father to 19-month-old son Noah with stunning model Luisana. In the apology, the Crazy Love singer continued to insist he has always had a healthy respect of the opposite sex.

“Women are to be celebrated, loved, respected, honoured and revered,” he added. “I've spent my life believing that and will continue to do so."
