The difference was a mere one-thousand albums, but Bruce Springsteen has finally displaced Adele from on top of the Billboard Album chart. The British songstress has occupied the spot for the last nine consecutive weeks and for 23 weeks over the last year.
Springsteen's Wrecking Ball sold 196,000 albums in its first week of release while Adele's 21 moved 195,000. Last weeks number 2, Whitney Houston's Greatest Hits, fell from 2 to 6.
Wrecking Ball is Springsteen's tenth number one album, moving him into a tie with Elvis Presley for third place on the all-time list. The only artists to surpass that total are Jay-Z (12) and the Beatles (19).
