Brighton duo Blood Red Shoes were last week ejected from a Russian Olympic closing party, for showing their support for the jailed punk act Pussy Riot. The band were asked to perform for the Russian Olympians at the event sponsored by a Russian sports brand, and seized the opportunity to dedicate a song to the incarcerated band. The two-piece were subsequently cut off mid-song and forced to leave by the Russian security team.

Drummer and singer Steven Ansell said: 'After dedicating a song to the girls in Pussy Riot, they fucking pulled the plug on us! We were then told to get out by a bunch of massive Russian security guards. We grabbed our gear into a van and got out pronto.'

Steven and band mate Laura-Mary Carter were ejected from the event, which took place at the ICA Club near Horse Guards Parade, on Thursday of last week without any explanation from the venue or organisers.

Blood Red Shoes play Shepherd's Bush Empire on January 22nd.
