Blake Shelton is "still trying to get laid" so doesn't get too competitive with his wife Miranda Lambert.
The couple are both huge on the country music scene and have found themselves nominated for the same awards over the years. Most recently they were both up for the Entertainer of the Year gong at the CMA Awards, with Luke Bryan eventually taking the prize. Blake makes sure he stays humble when nominations are announced.
"A bunch of times we have been. It doesn't do good for me to be competitive for her. Just the idea of me going, 'Ha ha! I'm gonna beat you!' it already sets the wrong tone. Because I'm still trying to get laid sometimes, you know what I'm saying? So I'm trying to keep it like, 'High five! I hope you beat me 'cause you're better!'" Blake laughed to US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.
The star added it's not the same for his wife, who tends to get very competitive about things.
Jimmy then quizzed Blake on what it's like to pen tracks with Miranda, which they've done in the past. Their 2012 song Over You was a big hit and featured on Miranda's album, with the host interested to hear why Blake didn't get the song for his record.
"Let me just back up here. I don't get a say so," Blake joked. "All the way back to the awards thing, it's like, it's you, it's all about you. Have you heard any of her music? All her music is about killing guys and burning their houses down and beating up people. That's my wife! That is my wife! What do you want me to do; I'm not going to challenge her!"
Blake's latest record is called Bringing Back the Sunshine, and the cover art features a water tower from his hometown of Ada in Oklahoma. Growing up there was fun for the star, not least because a lot of country musicians come from around the area. Among those are Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire, so Blake realised at a young age that the career was a possibility for him.
He started playing guitar and penning music and can still remember the first song he wrote.
"It was called, That Girl Made a Fool Out of Me and... uh [it was about] just some b***h, I don't know," he giggled. "Nobody's ever heard the song. But the title is so catchy, you gotta admit."
