Justin Bieber’s dog has died.

The 20-year-old singer had a brown and white Papillon, who was living with his grandparents. But he shared an emotional Instagram tribute on Thursday to announce the pooch has passed away.

“R.i.p Sammy… you were the best puppy ever,” Justin wrote in the caption.

The photo looked to have been taken a number of years ago, when the Baby hitmaker still had his long mop of brown hair. He can be seen cradling the cute puppy on the backdrop of what appears to be a pet adoption centre.

Justin confirmed with American radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest back in 2011 that Sammy was the only dog he had, and that he lived with his grandmother and grandfather.

More recently, however, the entertainer has acquired more dogs and hasn’t had the best luck with them.

Last month, TMZ reported his father Jeremy Bieber hurled their American bulldog named Karma out a window.

Jeremy allegedly became furious before throwing the animal from the second storey in a fit of rage. Karma fortunately survived the incident.

It’s not been an easy time for Justin lately, with his on/off girlfriend Selena Gomez apparently laughing about his new platinum blonde hair during an interview with Norway’s NRJ Radio.

But she made it clear that although they’re not together, he’s still special to her.

"I definitely have so much respect and love for him," the 22-year-old beauty said.
