Justin Bieber wants his new music to work “so badly”.

The 21-year-old announced the upcoming release of his new single, What Do You Mean, during an appearance on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Wednesday. The singer is anxiously counting down the days until the track drops on August 28 as he’s desperate to get positive feedback on his efforts.

“I’ve been working a lot in the studio, just trying to have a consistent sound, a cohesive sound,” he explained. “I get in my head a lot and I get kind of depressed because I want it to work so badly. I want people to love it. I want to inspire people. Sometimes I wonder, ‘Is this good enough? Is this the direction I want to go?’ I had kind of a rough week last week. I get in my head and I don’t want to get out of bed sometimes.”

Despite Justin’s worries about his new music, he insisted to Ryan that the first single off his new album will get people in the party mood. His new album will be his first studio release in three years.

“It’s fun, it’s summery … Definitely the first single is amazing,” he said. “I worked really hard on it with a guy named Poo Bear.”

Justin’s most recent outing was on Where Are U Now, a collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo. He added to Ryan that his album is along the same lines so his fans should like it.

“It’s really uplifting, clear, poppy, but cool,” he revealed. “The sounds are super expensive. Skrilex is a genius. He’s super futuristic and I just love his sound. So to be able to incorporate that sound with what I’m doing has been super cool because it’s new and fresh. I feel like no one has done it before. I’m very excited.”
