Avril Lavigne got an anniversary gift she “can’t believe”.
The singer married Chad Kroeger in July 2013 in the South of France. The couple was engaged in August 2012 with Avril receiving a 14-carat pear-shaped diamond ring from the Nickelback frontman.
"I still can't believe my 1 year anniversary gift,” the Complicated hitmaker captioned a photo of her and her husband on her Twitter account. “"17 carat emerald cut. Wow. I love my hubby.”
The couple met while working on Avril’s fifth album in 2012 and was quick to fall in love. Chad proposed a month and six days after they began dating.
“It was like we'd known each other forever," the Girlfriend singer told People magazine last year. "It's a very intimate process, and you have to really open up when you're songwriting. When it was over and I had to go work with other people, it sucked.
“So I called him and asked him to come back to LA to do some more writing with me, and he was like, 'Hell yeah!'"
The pair penned plenty of ballads as a result of their romance. But Chad admits that the music may have been sickly.
"We wrote a song called My Little Secret, about keeping our relationship under wraps," he told People. "And others like Let Me Go, Hush Hush, and Give You What You Like. Our writing partner must have been like, 'You guys are making me sick!'"
This is not the songstress’s first marriage. The 29-year-old married her boyfriend of two years, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, in 2006 and the former couple divorced in 2010.
