Avril Lavigne says trying to plan her wedding around her music career is "insane".

The Canadian singer released her new single, Here's To Never Growing Up, earlier this month. Her fifth studio album is due to hit stores in September.

The 28-year-old star also reportedly set to marry Nickelback frontman and fellow Canadian Chad Kroeger, 38, this summer, and is struggling to juggle her commitments.

"It is insane. I'm trying to do fittings for the album cover and then do a fitting for the wedding dress," Avril told Australia's News Limited newspaper group. "I am just trying to keep up with it all and enjoy it."

Avril's latest single explores the Peter Pan concept of remaining youthful. She admits she is a "free spirit" herself.

"I love the Peter Pan idea of never growing up," she said. "I think being in music kind of keeps you young."

Despite having been in the music industry for 12 years, Avril doesn't feel pressure to conform. She thinks it's important to stay true to her musical style.

"I don't want to have to follow a trend, I just want to be myself," she said.

While Avril is tight-lipped about her wedding date, she recently told US TV host Chelsea Handler she would be going "all out" for her nuptials.

Avril and Chad began dating in July 2012 while they were working on her album together, and announced their engagement just a month later.

Avril was formerly married to Sum41 lead singer and guitarist Deryck Whibley. The pair split in 2009 after three years of marriage.
