Avril Lavigne never found Chad Kroeger attractive, according to reports.
The pair announced their split on Wednesday after just two years of marriage and now details have emerged about just what caused the pair’s union to break down.
An insider told Radar Online Avril always struggled with the romance side of her relationship with Nickleback frontman Chad, and the lack of intimacy in their marriage is said to have been one of the main factors in their split.
“Avril fell in love with Chad for his artistic self and because he treated her like a princess, but the romance was almost non-existent from the beginning,” the source explained.
“Everyone advised her that you have to have passion to make a marriage work, but she didn’t want to listen because she was very intent on becoming this music industry power couple.”
The pair have been surrounded by rumours about the state of their marriage for months. But now Avril has made her single status official, the Complicated singer is said to be extremely relieved.
“She is more than okay right now, though, especially now that she is no longer in a bitter and sexless marriage with a man that she did not find attractive to begin with,” the insider added.
“All that the two of them did in the past couple of months was fight because his career is basically over and he has been trying to stop her from reinventing herself like she is trying to do.”
It was something of a different story in the statement Avril released announcing the end of the marriage.
Alongside a picture from their wedding day, Avril wrote on Instagram: “It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today.
“Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support. (sic)"
