Camden Council has a new Mayor following the annual meeting of the Council on 15 May 2013.

Councillor Jonathan Simpson dubbed ’Camden’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Mayor’ has been elected to the role and has chosen the Amy Winehouse Foundation as his charity for the year.

While the Mayor will raise funds for the Foundation’s work, the Foundation will work with schools in Camden to provide a school based drug and alcohol education awareness programme. The ‘Resilience Programme’ will provide an effective educational and support service for young people and their families. The work will start at three schools in Camden; Acland Burghley, Hampstead School and La Sante Union.

Councillor Simpson’s Mayoress for the year will be Marcella Puppini, founder member of the internationally acclaimed group the Puppini Sisters and lead singer of Marcella & the Forger Me Nots.

Councillor Jonathan Simpson, Mayor of Camden said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be elected to the position of Mayor for a second time and I look forward to working with all members across the Council.

“Amy Winehouse was a popular figure in Camden and leaves a lasting legacy. The Foundation are a fantastic cause and I not only look forward to raising much needed funds for their work, but also supporting their aim of increasing drug and alcohol education to young people.

Mitch Winehouse, Chair of the Amy Winehouse Foundation said: "Jonathan has been incredibly supportive of our work with young people and we are absolutely delighted that he has chosen the Amy Winehouse Foundation as his charity for the year. We very much look forward to working with him and his team.”
