Absolute Radio announce exclusive Queen documentary series - ‘Killer Queen’

Absolute Radio, in collaboration with award winning production company TBI Media, have designed and created an exclusive two part documentary for one of the greatest rock bands in history- Queen.
The documentary series aptly named ‘Killer Queen’ is centralised around original content including interviews and commentary from Queen’s very own Brian May and Roger Taylor.
They offer personal, detailed thoughts about twenty of their most successful songs. They talk about the context in which the songs were written, the way in which they were recorded and the effect they had on the lives of the band members, as well as looking at the music’s influence on bands today.

The personal stories are cut into two one hour documentaries accompanied by a rich mix of music, including the Queen songs in discussion as well as occasional additions of archive from the period in which the songs were produced.
The documentaries will also feature contributions from contemporary musicians including Keane’s Tom Chaplin among others who have joined in to celebrate the band’s legacy and continued influence. Other notable contributors include Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics and comedian, actor and general Queen impresario- Rhys Thomas.
The series will be broadcasted across Absolute Radio and digital sister stations Absolute 80s and Absolute Classic Rock with part one, airing on Monday 22th August from 8pm-9pm. Part two will follow on Tuesday 23rd August from 8pm-9pm.
There will be a featured ‘Queen Week’ on Absolute Classic Rock with tracks from Queen’s studio albums played throughout the week to build the anticipation for the premiere of ‘Killer Queen’. ‘Queen Week’ will run from Monday 15th August- Friday 19th August.
The documentaries will spearhead a wider ‘Queen Season’ across the Absolute Radio network. A bespoke splash page is being created at www.absoluteradio.co.uk which will host a ‘Queen Quiz’ set to go live between Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th August. Listeners will be directed to the page for their chance to win £500 cash plus top Queen related prizes.
The station will then recount Queens iconic performance from 1985’s Live Aid at Wembley in a programme package entitled ‘Queen at Live Aid’. The special will include highlights from the performance with commentary from the likes of Brian May, Roger Taylor and Elton John. This will follow ‘Killer Queen’ on Absolute Radio, Absolute 80s and Absolute Classic Rock over the bank holiday weekend from Saturday 27th August.

The station is also working with the Mercury Phoenix Trust across ‘Queen Season’ on Absolute Radio. The charity established in Freddie’s name by fellow band members Brian May and Roger Taylor together with manager Jim Beach, was launched in 1992 with the hugely successful Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness. The charity has continued to engage in numerous other fundraising activities and since its inception in 1992 the organisation has been responsible for donating more than $15 million in the fight against AIDS with over 750 grants to charities worldwide.

Absolute Radio will celebrate their latest worldwide campaign - ‘Freddie For A Day’ on the 5th September. The day is a celebration of Freddie Mercury’s Birthday, his life and legacy and encourages fundraisers to raise money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust by donning the most famous moustache in music for a day.
