One Direction have released their first single since Zayn Malik left the band.

Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan were left to perform as a four piece when the 22-year-old quit in March.

But the boys are back with new track Drag Me Down, which they shared with fans on social media this morning.

"Bit of a surprise ! Check out our new single! It’s called Drag Me Down & I hope you love it as much as we do (sic)," Liam tweeted.

Harry simply posted a link, while Niall wrote: "Finally we get to say this ! have waited a long time but our new single Drag Me Down is out !!! (sic)"

Louis, 23, also shared the good news with his followers, probably glad the spotlight is finally off his impending fatherhood after it emerged that his friend Briana Jungwirth is pregnant with his baby.

"We wanted you guys to have our new single first so here it is!" he tweeted.

"Thank you for all your constant support. Hopefully you love it , we're proud of it :) (sic)"

In true One Direction style, Drag Me Down is a catchy love song with a poppy beat. With lyrics like "I got a river for a soul and baby you're a bow / Baby, you're my only reason" it's sure to get their fans swooning.

Meanwhile, Zayn is making sweet solo music. The star has a record deal with RCA, joining music heavyweights including Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys.

"I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !! (sic)," he posted on Twitter.
