One Direction are apparently recording their fifth album.

Things have been non-stop for the boyband, who were busy promoting their last record, Four, last year.

After a short break for Christmas, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are back on the road with their aptly titled On the Road Again Tour in February.

And the holidays are well and truly over for the group, who are allegedly in the studio working on their next set of songs. It comes in light of plenty speculation that the boys are going in their own separate directions.

“There has been a bit of a question about the timing of the fifth album but there was never any doubt it would be released, despite the ridiculous speculation,” an insider told British newspaper The Sun.

"Initially the guys thought they might want more time away from the studio because they’ve been busy promoting Four.

“But they’ve been itching to get back recording again because it’s what they love to do, so it’s full steam ahead.”

Not stepping too far out of their comfort zone, One Direction will be working with collaborators they know well - Wayne Hector and Julian Bunetta. Wayne helped pen huge hits Best Song Ever and Steal My Girl in the past.

As always, the boys will go off individually or in pairs to work on tracks.

“It’s a formula that’s worked before and it’s how the lads like to work,” the source continued.

“The reality is that after nearly five years together they are very much in control of their sound and the process.”
