Nicole Scherzinger reportedly turned down Lewis Hamilton’s proposal this summer.

The singer enjoyed an on/off relationship with the Formula One star from 2008 until they separated earlier this year.

Recent reports suggest they’ve rekindled their romance and E! News now claims Lewis popped the question in August in a bid to “win her back”, but his plan backfired.

“[Lewis] proposed to Nicole on the beach in Malibu,” a source said.

“Unfortunately for him, though, Nicole said no,” the outlet reports.

The pair have insisted they are “just friends” after supposedly stepping out of a date at a London hotel last month.

And it seems Lewis, 28, hasn’t given up on his dream of making Nicole, 35, his bride.

"[He’s] ready to propose to Nicole for the second time,” a source said.

However, he may have a difficult time convincing the former Pussycat Dolls singer to say “yes”.

According to the insider, there is more behind the pair’s break-up than the difficulty of long-distance.

"Nicole did not break up with Lewis because of distance or work obligations," the source said.

"The couple had issues within the relationship that caused the breakup. There were many longstanding problems in the relationship."

Nicole told UK newspaper The Sun last month she would not “rule anything out” in her future.

Spokespersons for the pair have declined to comment.
