Saint Raymond, AKA 18-year-old Nottingham-born Callum Burrows is a young lad aiming for the stars. He’s just announced a new Young Blood EP due out Jan 5th and he’s just been named as the support for Haim’s sold out UK tour.

2013 has been one rollercoaster year for Saint Raymond. His self-penned, independently released debut ‘Escapade EP’ shot up the iTunes album chart upon release in May with lead track ‘Fall At Your Feet’ promoted as iTunes Single of the Week.

Undoubtedly one of the hottest rising acts in the UK, we caught up with the man himself whilst he was recording his album in sunny LA, he had this to say:

1. Hi Callum, first off what is it like being announced for such a major tour with Haim?

It’s pretty exciting; I am really looking forward to this tour. Will be great to travel around and open up for Haim. The whole thing is sold out as well so the crowds should be fairly lively!

2. You’re only young, was the choice to change from education to music a hard one?

Well, mine was kind of easy, I lasted a whole hour at college! I did well at school but as soon as I knew I wanted to do music I lost interest in education.

3. Who are your main influences when writing?

My influences are quite wide, I was brought up on a lot of different styles- from Oasis to dance music, so I take quite a wide variety of musical styles when writing.

4. What are the general themes of the upcoming album?

I write about all different kind of things. I want to create an album that is one of those records you can listen to back to front, with energy and a youthful but mature vibe about it.

5. How does it feel to travel to LA to record your debut?

It's amazing to get an opportunity to come out here to write and work with some great people (plus it's super hot)

6. What is the ultimate goal for you?

Just make a really strong record, I'm a big believer that the music does the talking and a lot of artists forget that, so I want to make sure I take my time but put out something I'm really happy with and proud of.

7. If you had to collaborate with any artist dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Well I would have loved to have spent some time in a room with The Beatles back in the day!

8. How does it feeling having people like Zane Lowe being one of your fans?

It's really amazing. I've always listened to Zane especially to hear about new artists and now to know I'm on of those he's supporting, it's great

9. People’s music taste usually comes from what they listened to as a kid, what did you listen to?

Like mentioned earlier I was brought up on a lot of different stuff. I was and still am Oasis mad but also I listened to a lot of acoustic stuff and then got in to guitar bands like The Kooks etc

10. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years time?

I'd like to see myself with a couple of albums out and played some really big shows but most importantly, having fun with it all. The moment when it becomes too serious is when it loses what it's all about for me.

I reckon big things are destined for this guy and it seems like Callum is just going with the flow and enjoying himself. He’s a nice guy too and it’s rare you find them in the music business these days. Best of luck to him I say!
