Immortal Technique has to be the most underrated emcee in the last 10 years....
With his political message which is undeniably on point and at the same time full of passion, his mere presence on stage made the crowd explode, the Coronet(London) was packed but not with the typical hiphop crowd, such is his appeal. I for one been listening to his work for years, and was more than happy when he played Peruvian cocaine, bin laden, industrial revolution, the point of no return, obnoxious, and dance with devil amongst other great classics. In between tracks he blessed us with some great acappella’s and commentaries.
At one point there was a drunk / cracked out woman that was causing some bother in the crowd, rather than ignore her, I-T started berating her saying not only had she smoked crack, but also drank it!(haha) dj GI-Jo also dropped some wicked cuts, showing off his mad skills on the decks.
Two thirds into the show I-T got the crowd to put their fists in the air, once everybody had done so he asked "turn the fuck around and face the door, cos the fight is out there" which was a classic moment, showing that not only is he a great lyricist and performer, but also a greater public speaker better than most politicians out there.
As for the support acts I arrived just when Skinnyman started his slot. Solid set as per usual, the crowd went nuts when he did his smoking ban song, ironically not one spliff or cigarette could be seen at the time...
Then there was the half hour before I-t came on, which was 279's set(I think) playing classic tunes, mostly spoiled by some under par rappers doing adlibs all over the tracks (low point) but overall it was a great night, after the show there were the usual battles outside the club, filmed by jumpoff tv. The vibe was still there an hour after people evacuated the place. To say the least it was electric.
