Heading down to the Union Chapel last Tuesday night, I knew that I was going to be viewing a unique artist who has been receiving alot of attention lately. I was intrigued as to what all the fuss was about, and soon enough I found out. The artist was Newton Faulkner and he was not to disappoint me!
Not only is Union Chapel one of the best places to see an accoustic show, but when an artist can capture the mood of the venue the audience becomes even more mesmorized by the performance. Newton Faulkner's music is beautifully clear. He mystically captures the moment with heart felt lyrics, catchy melodies, and unique drum style guitar playing. He commands the attention of his audience and it was no surprise to see that his following absolutely adore him.
From his first single 'Dream Catch Me' to 'UFO' where he has a distinct little dance, the audience is right involved and hanging on to every note. His cover of the Massive Attack track 'Teardrop' is done in such a way that it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end. Not only is Newton's hairstyle of long red dreads an impressive site, but he has the ability to keep his audience of all ages occupied with his beautiful voice, and his impressive witty sense of humour.
If you like the sounds of The Dave Matthews Band, Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, Jack Johnson, or Matchbox 20, this artist will definitely appeal to your musical taste. The impressive thing about Newton Faulkner is that he is the farthest thing from a manufactured artist. His amazing voice and impressive musical talent is a welcoming attribute to today's music. His album 'Hand Built By Robots' is released on July 30th, and I think that this album will be one of the best albums this year. I give him a 5 star rating!
