The night was eagerly anticipated, as it was a sold out house to a homecoming crowd. With the crowd shouting ‘LMT LMT', it was clear to see that the band has earned themselves a devoted fan base.
At 9.45pm, the band finally rolled on to the stage and the crowd uproared. Dressed in long sleeve shirts and v neck sweaters, the band are Jon Windle (vocal, guitar), Maz (guitar), Ben Surtees (bass) and Dan Fields (drums).
The crowd was very energetic as Little Man Tate launched in to their first song. The audience acknowledged the song ‘Man I Hate Your Band' as the first few riffs were played, by singing along to the tune. Frontman Jon grinned from ear to ear, as he saw the crowd's reaction and was like a cheshire cat throughout the whole performance. With tongue in cheek lyrics like ‘Brand new tops and bottoms drop, no knickers underneath', what make an LMT song are the humorous lyrics. The fans are singing out, whole heartedly, along with every word and I wish I knew them too.
‘What, What You Got' tells the tale of a guy getting ready for a night out, hopeing for a one nighter, and of a girl who isn't particulary picky whom he pulls. The most hilarious lyrics comes from ‘Court Report' which talks about the life of a skinhead cross dresser, who watches Eastenders and cleans in his red suspenders!
Halfway through the gig, Jon announced how great it was to be back in Sheffield. They have toured in many places but Sheffield is always one of a kind. The crowd appreciated this and chanted ‘Sheffield, Sheffield'.
The performance is memorable with Jon's constant hand gestures and finger pointing and Jarvis Cocker springs to mind. Must be a Sheffield thing. At the end of the night, Jon teases the crowd with a stage dive to which the bouncers did not approve. He looked disappointed for a split second but then ran and dived straight in to the crowd. Unfortunately, the crowd could not hold his weight (as he is a big fella) and landed straight on to me! I found myself being swayed back and forth, alongside with Jon, being mobbed by the crowd. I eventually made my way out of the madness. It made my night to say the least!
