It’s been 11 years since THC’s first album, ‘Pride Of Texas’ was released and in the intervening years they had had what could be kindly called a ‘fluid’ membership.
The only constant has been founder and lead vocalist ‘Big Dad’ Ritch but with a vocal as strong and easily identified as his, that’s all good.
Put most simply, they are a heavy rock / heavy metal band, loud, brash and arrogant and I would defy anyone to sit still listening to them.
You might expect a band with Texas in the title to do songs about partying, biking and all the things that go along with the life and that is exactly what you get – they happen to be rather good at it.
The current lineup is: ‘Big Dad’ Ritch on lead vocals, Cord Pool on guitar, Nevada Romo on guitar, Larado Romo on bass and Devon Carothers on drums and together they show a remarkable range of talents.
They don’t only play loud and hard, on tracks such as ‘Ride Or Die’ they bring the power down to a balladic honesty, full on emotion and passion as well as the thundering drums in the climax.
When they do hit top gear metal mayhem – such as ‘Dirty Finger’ or ‘Stevie Nicks’ (yes a song in praise of Stevie Nicks) – they rock like beasts, unconstrained and as powerful as a Mack truck.
This isn’t anything I haven’t heard before but it has a fresh feel to it and a really uplifting power.
Damn good stuff it is too.
