Dario G returns with his new single "CRY". For almost 2 decades Dario G (a.k.a. Paul Spencer) has become well knon for his dance and pop songs, which became huge chart-breakers across the world. You will know instantly the Dario G summer classic "Sunchyme", banging soccer anthems "Carnaval de Paris" and "Ring Of Fire", The Beach soundtrack "Voices", as well as his acclaimed writing and producing of the Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Mascot Song with Pitbull. We caught up with him to find out a little more.
What song reminds you most of your childhood?
So many to choose from. I would be giving clues about my age of course, so here goes. Music from parents like the Beatles and the Shadows. My first purchased album was a disco compilation. I learnt lots of classical things on the piano. If I was to choose one record it would be The Art of Noise - Close (to the Edit)
Which song inspired you to become a musician/singer?
Again, impossible to say just one, there are thousands. But the question of just one, the track that pops into my head right now would be The Pet Shop Boys - Suburbia.
Which song/tune do you wish you had written?
Bohemian Rhapsody. Like everyone else.
What was the first song/tune you wrote?
I wrote a full song at school called “Comparison” (I think it was a song from a poor boy yearning for the attention of a girl that was in a much “richer” environment). Just me singing at the piano. I performed it at a school concert. It was very brave looking back. Especially considering I didn’t have a great singing voice (and the girls choir were all giggling as I started with the first words). I know now that having a poor singing voice means the song has to stand up because the poor voice certainly doesn’t help it!
What unreleased song/tune are you most excited for people to hear?
Lots. Most songwriters are usually most excited about the track they’re working on right now and I’m no different.
Which artist/band has been the most inspirational to you?
Lennon and McCartney for songwriting. Trevor Horn for production. The whole dance music industry for everything else.
Which song/album currently dominates your attention?
My new Dario G single “Cry” (you walked into that!)
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
If you could jam with one artist alive or dead, who would it be?
John Lennon (there’s a theme here eh?)
Someone is making a film of your life, who will play you?
Bruce Willis.. Or a much younger version. Can he do a northern English accent? Brad Pitt if he’s too expensive.
Lastly, tell us one thing you have never revealed in an interview…
l’m addicted to Diesel trainers!
