Nearly twenty years have disappeared since John Butler released his independent eponymous debut album as a post-Christmas gift to his fans. Since then he and his often changing bandmates have released a stunning catalogue of albums every 3-4 years. With 2014's Flesh & Blood having proved a huge hit around the world, catapulting their fame to a new high, the band's frontman has clearly been in a reflective frame of mind as the band's new album is titled Home, and sheds some light onto his frame of mind and explores themes of love, family and identity.

As with all John Butler Trio records, Home covers a multitude of genres - showing that they can handled bold and brassy blues just as effortlessly as they can introverted but expressive alt country.

Although they are best known for their rootsier work, the electronic beats of Just Call really makes for a compelling listen. Although it comes close to being the album's highlight, it misses out on the title to the truly stunning You Don't Have To Be Angry Anymore. Tender and thoughtful, this is touched by a pop influence, knocking the socks off anything Ed Sheeran has penned and is even more deserving of the universal radio success that Mr Sheeran achieves.

A truly personal insight that is as touching as it is entertaining. John Butler Trio deliver their finest release to date.
